Mission Statement

SOCIAL NETWORKING BACK IN THE HANDS OF THE STUDENTS

Building on previous concepts, TheCollegeLife.com or TCL, is setting out to enhance the idea of social networking for college students. Much more than another Facebook clone or bandwagon social network, TCL represents several years of research and development with a focus on the impact of social networks on the daily lives college students. TCL recognizes that in addition to being entertainment destinations, social networks have become an integral part of the college experience. The need exists for a college exclusive network that not only aims to provide what Facebook once did, but continues to provide new, exciting, and useful tools that meet the unique needs of the college marketplace, a goal abandoned by Facebook when it made the business driven decision to pander to the masses.

By building upon the successes of previous sites and correcting the mistakes, TCL will take it to the next level with advanced technology and unique core features such as a custom blogging platform, a strict site structure that provides security through .edu protection, simplified file and information organization, YouTube.com access and Amazon wish lists, among many other innovations. The underlying concept is to have a simple interface that allows maximum information to be shared without sacrificing security and privacy. Users will have full control over their information and be given every opportunity to weigh in on new developments and planned changes to the site.

The goal of TCL is to provide students the social interaction portal they need with the exciting features they desire by allowing them an active role in the developmental future of the site. Through this unique approach TCL will grow and expand dynamically with the shifting needs of the sole target audience, college students.

"Like other social networking sites you'll be able to see classes and profiles of your peers, but you'll also be able to look at blogs they write, buy music they listen to and find out the latest on local weather and news built specifically around your school. It's everything a college student needs in one place".

The site is currently set up as a suggestion and forum portal to allow all visitors to weigh in on what they would like to see from the social networking site. This is an introduction to the "For students, by students" approach taken by TCL which is allowing students to provide their opinions prior to the initial launch of the site. Given the recent issues experienced with the likes of Facebook and MySpace, TCL is establishing itself as a site that is built for students with their needs in mind, instead of a place to exploit their information and sacrifice their privacy. The site focuses on a philosophy of building based on student desires and encourages all users to make their voice heard and help shape the site to be what they truly want in a social networking destination. "The students will help build the network into what we hope will become the most comprehensive and advanced social network for college students on the web".

Once initial development is completed and all user feedback can be considered, the site will launch a Beta version in anticipation of changes and development of new features spawned by the user feedback. Unlike other social networking sites, TheCollegeLife.com's sole focus is on the college marketplace and building the best possible service for college students. TCL appreciates the unique needs and desires of college students and understands that these needs cannot be adequately met through a site that serves outside audiences with conflicting interests. There are no plans to dilute the network by allowing outsiders into the network in the future, any growth will be done by utilizing the technology on separate URL's and allowing opt-in integration in order to maintain the integrity of the college student network. "It's not Everybody'sLife.com it's TheCollegeLife.com"

TCL will determine the school's to be included in the initial launch through gauging response and accepting requests through the feedback portal and will continue to grow to accommodate all Universities based on demand and user interest.
